About Québec Tour Guides
This website grew out of everyday professional practice. We are independent tour guides who regularly work together, refer clients to one another, and sometimes share larger groups when a visit requires more than one guide. Over time, it simply made sense to bring our profiles together in one place.
There is no association behind this site, no formal organization, and no budget for anything because this project has no revenue. It is just a group of licensed guides with years of experience, who know each other’s work and trust one another professionally.
The website itself is hosted at no cost on Tours Accolade’s server. It was built as a simple, lightweight project over the course of three days during the low season, and operates without any budget
Why this site exists
Planning a guided tour today often means navigating an online landscape dominated by large booking platforms. Many of these platforms invest heavily in advertising and search engine visibility, making them appear as the most obvious or trustworthy options. In practice, they often act as intermediaries, taking substantial commissions while offering little transparency about who actually delivers the tour.
This opacity allows external actors to present themselves as local experts, even when they are not based in Québec City and have no lasting connection to the place. Tour descriptions are sometimes generic or copied, images may come from stock libraries, and guides are occasionally hired at the lowest possible cost, with varying levels of experience or certification. For travelers, it becomes increasingly difficult to tell who is truly local, licensed, and professionally invested in the city they are visiting.
Québec Tour Guides was created as a simple, practical alternative to that system. The guides listed here do not pay to appear on the site, and no commission is taken on bookings. We won’t even know with who you’re going to book a tour. The site does not sell tours, rank guides, or promote sponsored results. It exists to make selected local professionals visible, to point directly to their own websites, and to allow travelers to book public or private tours without intermediaries. In that sense, it reflects a more straightforward idea of the internet: helping people connect directly, make informed choices, and engage with those who actually live and work where they guide.
